Willow

ancient willow tree in blackpool

In a beautiful small park in Blackpool well off the tourist trail stands an ancient Willow tree.

The park was opened in 1926, and the tree is easily as old as that. At some time it appears to have fallen over under its own weight and regrown. I was so impressed with its appearance that I photographed meaning to create a linoprint.

This has finally happened. Some artistic licence has been taken, but I hope you think it worthwhile.

I had branches each end of the print, but there was a "hole" in the middle. I tried more branches, but then it looked too muddled. Eventually it "dawned" and I stencilled a lovely big sun to fill the gap.  (It can be a moon if you prefer.

A4 linoprint in an edition of 11.
